Star fruit Carambola is a juicy tropical fruit that grew throughout Southeast Asia. Star fruit is green when unripe and the fruit varies from pale yellow to deep amber when ripe. It has four to six strongly indicated ridges that run from top to bottom, and the meat is wrapped in a soft thin skin translucent wax (which is eaten with meat). When the fruit is cut crosswise each slice has the shape of a star, then its called, "star fruit".
The fruit, which is mostly eaten fresh or juice is rich in vitamins a and C, and also iron and high fiber content. The taste ranges from sour to sweet, a way to distinguish the varieties more sour than sweet is that the former has narrower ribs, while the latter have more often, fleshy ones. Unripe star is preserved in many parts of Southeast Asia and is used as a traditional remedy.

Growing environment:
Hot, dry wind and cold can severely damage the trees and fruits, properly windbreaks are suggested to the culture ideal. Give the full sun plant, fertilize 4-5 times per year and provide water to moderate throughout the year. Heavy water during flowering can inhibit the production of fruit and pollination. Star fruit are susceptible to root rot in wet conditions, but they do generally well with moderate rainfall throughout the year.
Health benefits:
• Star fruit can lower cholesterol levels and add bulk and moisture to the stool.
• A decoction of the leaves and roots (prepared separately or in combination) can help cure headaches, ringworm and chickenpox.
• The fruit is known to cure hangovers and prickly heat. You can also use the pickled fruit for hangovers just take a piece of pickled, steamed fruit in water and serve.
• Fruit was also used for the treatment of sore eyes.
• The star fruit is given to mothers as it is commonly believed to stimulate the flow of milk.
• For sunstroke, a piece of sweet varieties is recommended.
• For nausea and indigestion eating half a piece of fruit and repeat after 3 hours.
• The high vitamin c content can help ward off flu and cold in winter.
• It is recommended that as a result of diet due to its high fiber and low calorie content.
• Star fruit is also rich in antioxidants and flavonoids.
